April 2023 Honoree
Giselle Rivera, Registered Nurse
I would like to nominate Giselle because she's not only an excellent nurse, but also a great person, and I want to explain why. Giselle was the first nurse that I met. I was scared to death to go through chemotherapy treatment. Giselle sat with me and went over every detail about the chemo that I was receiving, which was the red devil. She explained all the possible side effects and gave me advice on the pros and cons of the hair loss I was about to face. I can't express enough how good she made me feel that day. After treatment was over and I went home, I began to get sick, and it just got worse as days went on. I never felt so sick in my life. Needless to say, I was severely dehydrated and needed lots of fluids. I was sent back to the infusion center, and as I got fluids, Giselle came over to check on me even though she wasn't my nurse that day. That was the day that I truly thought I couldn't do this, and I wanted to give up. I didn't want to be sick. Giselle assured me not to give up, saying that she knew I could do it. She was right once again. As we approach today, my last chemo, I was lucky enough to have gotten Giselle as my nurse. She was my angel again, with everything she has done for me throughout my chemo journey. She went above and beyond on days she wasn't my nurse, coming by just to see how I was doing. That made me feel good. Giselle is very knowledgeable about her nursing career and an excellent person overall.
Thank you, Giselle, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
