August 2026 Honoree
Gina Farinacci-Nugent, MSN, APRN-FNP-BC, CWOCN-AP
Back in September, my husband required emergency surgery that resulted in a colostomy. I felt completely overwhelmed and unsure how we would manage such a life-changing situation. From the very beginning, Gina was a source of comfort and reassurance. She not only took the time to calm my fears, but she also thoroughly educated me and provided hands-on training so I could properly care for my husband’s ostomy.
Step by step, she guided me with patience and compassion. She continually reassured me and gave me the confidence I needed to manage my husband’s care at home. Over the next six to seven months, as I changed his ostomy appliance twice a week, I often thought of Gina's teachings and her encouraging words. Her guidance carried me through one of the most difficult times in our lives.
Because of her, I was able to care for my husband with confidence and help him heal. The impact she had on our family cannot be overstated.
Just this past week, my husband returned to the hospital for his reversal surgery. During his recovery, we spoke often about Gina and how instrumental she had been in our journey. By chance, we saw her while walking the halls. We were able to thank her in person and share how much she meant to us. She greeted us with a warm hug—just as compassionate and caring as we remembered.
Gina is truly a gift. Her empathy, kindness, and dedication to her patients and their families make a lasting difference. She has left a permanent mark on our lives, and we will always be grateful for the care and support she gave us.
