I wanted to recognize Gina for the outstanding dedication and care I witnessed her give to a family struggling psychologically during their NICU stay. I was amazed by the exceptional support and genuine concern Gina showed while she talked to the mother of one of her patients. Gina spoke to this mother on the phone for almost 45 minutes straight! She really went above and beyond to impart her expertise and compassion to make sure her patient's mother felt safe and cared for. Later that evening, when the baby's father and grandfather stopped by to visit, they also expressed feelings of frustration and sadness about an aspect of their baby's brain bleed. Gina immediately gave them her absolute attention and went through the brain scans together with them, taking the time to point out the various images and allowing the family to ask questions. This exceptional kindness and empathetic care really helped to de-escalate this family and make them feel better about their baby's prognosis and general NICU stay. In the background of these interactions, Gina also worked with the medical care team to coordinate social work and the doctors to ensure the mother of the baby was safe and cared for. I wanted to recognize Gina for her attention to this family and her commitment to providing emotional support while they navigated a complicated NICU stay.
