Right people doing the right work is so gratifying. Geselle had come into her shift two hours early to fill in for staff shortages.
A serendipity story: I got a call that my partner was done on day 1 and in her room so I could go see her. As I was standing near the crosswalk corner, the rain came pouring down, I hadn’t realized it was supposed to storm, so I had no umbrella. A woman in UCSF scrubs motioned for me to share her umbrella as we crossed the street. I felt awkward, but she insisted, so we made it across the street into the lobby. Thanking her, I got through the screening process and headed to the room. As I arrived, my partner was trying to read a menu so she could finally eat and drink something. As I was helping her, the nurses changed shift and Geselle walked in—a double take by both of us—of course, it was "she with the umbrella" who took care of me in the rain. Right people doing the right work is so gratifying. Geselle had come into her shift two hours early to fill in for staff shortages. There was no shortage of her care and skills overnight and her very special needs after her procedure. Geselle does the caring when no one‘s looking as well as when all depend on her.
