My son was admitted to the ER due to a dramatically low HR in the 30's. Gerri was his daytime RN while at WECH. She was outstanding! Gerri was able to talk with us as a family, but also advanced the conversation to a higher clinical level that would help us understand the in-depth results. She was calm and positive, and more importantly, serious when required. She always involved my son in conversation while respecting HIPAA standards and clarified with him that it was OK to discuss clinical matters with his parents. I trusted her years of ICU experience in helping all of us to understand my son's perplexing situation. She was always incredibly easy to approach, and the smallest of requests was met with a smile and a positive, friendly attitude. I think lastly and most importantly, she was an advocate for my son by involving critical thinking and evaluation of his unusual case with the current care team, or the need for potential elevation to a different level. His true diagnosis is still mysterious at the time of this letter and is likely multifactorial. It is potentially a perfect cascade of events leading to his symptoms. Gerri was a rock, weathering us through the storm of the unknown. I was very thankful she was assigned to my son while in the ICU!
