September 2026 Honoree
Geraldine Lamoglia, BSN, RNC-OB
I am honored to nominate Geraldine Lamoglia as the Clinical Nurse Educator for the DAISY Nurse Educator Award in recognition of her extraordinary commitment to postpartum nursing education and her unwavering dedication to supporting nurses, mothers, newborns, and families. As a clinical nurse educator in the postpartum setting, Gerry has played an instrumental role in developing highly skilled, compassionate nurses who provide exceptional care during one of the most important transitions in a family's life.
Gerry’s expertise in maternal-newborn nursing, labor and delivery, and her passion for teaching have strengthened the confidence and competence of countless nurses caring for postpartum patients. Gerry has been with South Miami Hospital for over 29 years and consistently creates engaging learning opportunities that enhance nurses' knowledge of postpartum assessment, breastfeeding support, newborn care, patient education, maternal safety, and the recognition of complications. Through bedside coaching, simulation training, clinical competency validation, and individualized mentorship, she ensures that every nurse is equipped to provide evidence-based, family-centered care. What sets Gerry apart is her ability to connect education directly to patient outcomes. She helps nurses understand not only the clinical aspects of postpartum care but also the emotional and psychosocial needs of new mothers and their families. Her great sense of humor and guidance have empowered staff to deliver compassionate care and improve the overall patient experience. New nurses often describe Gerry as a trusted mentor who fosters confidence during their transition into maternal-child nursing. Experienced nurses value her accessibility, encouragement, and commitment to professional growth. Gerry has made a lasting impact on both the nursing staff and the families that we serve at SMH. She truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Nurse Educator Award and is very deserving of this recognition.
