July 2026 Honoree
Garrett Wade, BSN, RN
It is difficult to put into words the impact Garrett had on my family during one of the most difficult times of our lives. While my dad was in the hospital, Garrett provided care that went far beyond his clinical responsibilities. His kindness, diligence, dedication, and communication made an immeasurable difference to all of us. What stands out most is how Garrett showed up during the moments that mattered most. When my dad coded in his room, Garrett responded with professionalism, skill, urgency, and compassion. In a situation that was terrifying for our family, seeing Garrett remain calm and focused gave us confidence that my dad was receiving the very best care possible. The whole MICU team was incredible: the nurses, the physicians, RT, and everyone else. While I couldn’t watch the code, I stood outside the room the whole time, listening to what was going on. I knew everyone was doing their best to provide excellent life-saving measures, and the nurses continued to check in on my brothers and me to see if we needed anything. Garrett didn't just care for my dad—he cared for our entire family. He consistently checked in on my brothers and me, made sure we understood what was happening, and took the time to answer our questions. He never made us feel like a burden. His communication was clear, honest, and compassionate, and his presence brought comfort during an incredibly uncertain time.
What I will never forget about Garrett is not just what he did, but how he made us feel. He treated my dad with dignity and respect, and he treated our family with genuine kindness. He reminded us that nursing is not only about medical care—it's about human connection, compassion, and being there for people when they need it most. I will never forget Garrett. I will never forget his kindness, dedication, diligence, exceptional communication, or the way he cared for my family. He exemplifies everything a DAISY Award nurse should be, and I am deeply grateful for the care he provided during one of the hardest experiences of our lives. Garrett made a lasting impact on our family, and we will always remember him.
