Gabby is by far the most caring and compassionate professional I have ever met.
I’m writing to share my recent experience at CCH Mentor in the Emergency Department (ED). One exceptional nurse, Gabrielle (Gabby), completely turned things around and made a lasting impression on me and my family. Earlier in the evening, I was struggling with stomach issues and had just learned for the first time that I was in AFib. This unexpected news left me feeling uneasy and overwhelmed. Unfortunately, my initial interactions with the staff on the prior shift didn’t help. The nurse on duty entered my room twice without greeting me, and an aide who came in seemed annoyed when I said hello. I felt ignored and uncomfortable to the point that I questioned whether I wanted to stay. Then the shift change happened, and that’s when Gabby took over my care. Her uplifting energy was exactly what I needed. From the moment she walked into my room, I felt heard and cared for. She not only explained that I would need to spend the night in the ED before being transferred to another campus but also went above and beyond to ensure my comfort. At 6’4”, I don’t fit well on standard carts, but Gabby managed to arrange for a hospital bed to be brought downstairs for me. When the bed didn’t fit through the doors of my room, she tirelessly problem-solved, recruiting help and even testing other rooms to find a solution. She kept me informed every step of the way and moved me to a more suitable room as soon as it was available. While I waited, she even brought a recliner to make me more comfortable—all without me having to ask. In everything medical I have ever had done, Gabby is by far the most caring and compassionate professional I have ever met. Her genuine care and determination to ensure my comfort were deeply appreciated and truly made a lasting impression on me. Gabby went beyond to make me feel cared for during a stressful time. Her compassion, professionalism, and dedication made all the difference. Thanks to her efforts, I would not hesitate to return to your ED, even though another hospital is closer to me.
