Gabriela Hinner, RN

Gabby was very passionate and provided exceptional care to a patient in the Emergency Department. She was very helpful in going above and beyond for this patient during their ER stay. Without being too specific, this patient had mental health needs as well as medical needs. Gabby understood that this patient needed more than medical care at the hospital.

She sat by the patient at eye level and provided reassurance that was very much needed in the moment. This calming nursing technique showed how much she cares for patients and how, in that moment, nothing else mattered except comforting a patient who was in a crisis.

I deeply admired her compassion and involvement with the nursing care plan on many levels that went above normal nursing duties in the ER. I observed while assisting Gabby how this patient was calmer and genuinely felt better after Gabby's therapeutic interventions. I strive to follow Gabby's example of compassionate patient care.

This example emphasized how we as nurses are responsible for all aspects of patient care. The mental inclusions along with medical care can be devastating for patients. Gabby showed excellent patient care by emphasizing that the patient was not alone and that they were safe in the ER hospital setting.

Lastly, this patient care interaction showed how Gabby truly cares for her patients and takes the time to create a therapeutic relationship with her patients. Gabby exceeded typical ER nursing duties in the busy ER setting.
