Faviola’s decision to remain present with the patient ensured continuity of care and emotional support during a vulnerable moment.
I am honored to nominate Faviola Ordonez for recognition as an outstanding future nurse who exemplifies compassion, advocacy, leadership, and professionalism.
During a recent clinical day, Faviola demonstrated exceptional awareness and initiative outside of the traditional patient care setting. While on her lunch break in the parking lot of MountainView Hospital, she noticed a patient in distress sitting at a distance and calling for help. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Faviola immediately took action. She contacted her peers to notify the clinical instructor and remained with the patient to ensure their safety and provide reassurance.
The patient had been dropped off nearby and was attempting to walk to the emergency department, but was physically unable to continue. While Faviola stayed with the patient, the instructor guided the students to retrieve a wheelchair and perform an assessment prior to movement to prevent further harm. Faviola’s decision to remain present with the patient ensured continuity of care and emotional support during a vulnerable moment. The team then safely assisted the patient to the emergency room for timely evaluation and treatment.
