Once I graduate from nursing school, I want to be a nurse like her for someone else.
While I was on the BHU (Behavioral Health Unit), Faune was my nurse one of the days. In the morning, as she was making her morning med passes, she sat down and intently listened to my concerns about everything that had been going on in my life, manifested in all kinds of ways,  that I was experiencing. She drew everything out for me and gave me some resources (including a specific YouTube video) to help with my treatment.

I was wondering why I was having so much trouble in nursing school lately, and after she explained it, it made total sense. Later in the day, my parents and my fiancé came to visit me, and before my parents could leave, she found them and had that same conversation with them. When she came to tell me about her conversation with them, she drew out another sketch.

I was only up there for a couple of days, but after that initial conversation I had with Faune, I wanted her to be my nurse every day. Once I graduate from nursing school, I want to be a nurse like her for someone else. She told me that even though she had only known me for like 12 hours, she could tell I was going to be a great nurse. She kept telling me that some of the best nurses are the ones who have been there themselves. She definitely left an impression on me, as she was willing to go so far above and beyond trying to get me back to my usual self.

She has the kindest heart, and I’m so thankful that she was a part of my care. My mother also appreciated her taking the extra time to get to know my needs, fulfill them, and explain everything in depth so that we could understand what was happening with me. She is a gem, and Avera BHU is so lucky to have her!
