I have recently had the experience of working alongside Evie at NWH as I am a new PPC for Rad Onc. Evie is a shining example of compassionate, extraordinary care. She works in Radiation Oncology at NWH where she is a lone nurse in the department. The simple fact that this can even be is an incredible testament to her loyalty, reliability, and deep commitment to the patients she serves and the colleagues she works with. Evie has been in radiation oncology for more than 5 years and essentially does it all. She does not have support staff (such as an MA) to help her room patients, clean clinic rooms, answer phones, respond to Epic in-basket messages, or triage patients with on-demand clinical issues. Evie does it all, and she does so with a smile and the warmest heart you could imagine! She waits in the hall for her patients to complete their radiation therapy, so she can ensure they do not miss their doctor visit if it is an on-treatment visit day. She shows genuine concern about the well-being of the patients she cares for and the caregivers she works with. Evie works very diligently to coordinate care so that patients know they have a connection whether they are seen in clinic or not. Evie does all this knowing that if she needs to call off of work, or take a vacation, there will be a strong impact on the operation of the NWH Rad Onc clinic. She is an outstanding nurse, caregiver, team player, and human who consistently demonstrates excellence through her clinical expertise and compassionate care. She should be recognized for her extraordinary care.
