Being a retired nurse of 55 years, I notice things. I was staying with a friend in the hospital to relieve the family during her stay. I came about 4:30 pm and didn't see a nurse until the change of shift. Evelyn, the night shift nurse, came and got a report. She came back shortly and asked if the patient needed anything. I said, I think the patient would like to get up to the commode. Evelyn said, Let me get help. She came back very shortly with a CNA. They got the patient up who was totally saturated. Evelyn practically gave her an entire bath, rubbed her back, and was very caring about the whole situation. They got her situated back in bed, and Evelyn came back shortly just to check in since I was feeding the patient her supper. At med time, she told us each and every medication she was giving. I asked if there was any way I could get shampoo for the patient's hair. Evelyn said she had a few other things to check, and she would be back with the supplies. Not more than 20 minutes passed, and she was back with supplies and a warm shower cap, and helped me shampoo the patient's hair. It was so great! Just a few hours in Evelyn's care, I could tell she loves nursing and her patients she cares for. Her heart is for the patient and not for the job or the money. She’s going to be a great nurse for many years to come. Thank you, Evelyn!
