Prof. Mathis leads with kindness and brings the heart of nursing to us as students. She treated us as colleagues and emphasized the healing power of compassion and the fact that we are all one as a human race. Her teaching strategies were unique. She saw us students as unique individuals with amazing backgrounds. She created a safe and welcoming environment and instilled in us the golden rule of loving one another and treating each other with respect and love.

Her creative approach to teaching and learning, especially mnemonics, made difficult nursing subjects easier to learn. Prof. Mathis has touched our lives in a way that goes beyond the classroom.
