I am proud to nominate Eugene Kolomiytsev for his exceptional clinical skills, attention to detail, and patient advocacy, which directly prevented a serious surgical complication and ensured the safety of his patient. He was caring for a patient who had a lumbar drain removed. After the procedure, he demonstrated remarkable attention to detail, noticing a subtle cracking sound and carefully examining the removed tubing. He quickly identified that a small fragment was missing, indicating that it had likely remained lodged in the patient's back. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, he immediately escalated the concern, which led to a swift assessment and confirmation through imaging. Thanks to his quick thinking and decisive action, the fragment was safely removed without the patient needing to undergo surgery. His ability to stay calm under pressure, his clinical expertise, and his courage to speak up prevented a potentially serious complication. His actions reflect the highest standards of nursing care and embody the true spirit of the DAISY Award.
