I was lucky enough to get to meet Erin who changed not only my feelings for the NICU but the outlook for my son in general.
My story begins with a delivery at another hospital that was not equipped for a delivery let alone an emergency C-section. I was in a whirlwind of emotions after my wife and newborn son were transported to this hospital where we received some of the best most compassionate care I have ever received in a hospital setting. During our stay, we encountered many nurses doctors, and specialists but none compared to Erin. I will admit I am not a fan of hospitals, especially in a setting like the NICU, and seeing my son with tubes and in distress made the experience that much worse. For the first couple of days I spent my time fighting tears or walking out due to the rush of emotions I was feeling next to my son's bedside. I was lucky enough to get to meet Erin who changed not only my feelings for the NICU but the outlook for my son in general. Erin’s ability to use her medical knowledge to explain to me what was happening with my son, what she would be doing while caring for him, and a detailed plan on what I could expect over the course of our stay not only put me at ease but made me look forward to getting back up to visit my son. The care that Erin provided was consistent throughout our stay which not only helped my son grow/heal but supported my wife in a way that I have never seen done by a nurse. My wife is a cancer survivor so we have spent a fair share in hospitals, so when I say I was blown away by Erin’s ability to stay professional and put my son's medical care first at all times but to also console/comfort my wife the way a best friend of 20 years would, I hope you truly understand the impact she has made on my family. I am writing this with tears in my eyes hoping that you give this DAISY Award to Erin even though she deserves so much more. I know I will be returning to this hospital to give a gift of some sort but nothing will compare to what she has done for me and my family.  I will be forever grateful that I was lucky enough for her to be my son's nurse.
