She gathered some toys and activities for the child to complete since he couldn’t bring toys with him.
A young patient, 11 years old, came to our St.George Sleep Center for an overnight sleep test. The patient and family are transient and, from previous clinical visits, are documented as having a bedbug contamination issue. Arrangements were made so that the patient could be tested in the lab with proper precautions. The patient and his grandmother arrived at the ED for decontamination and had a successful sleep study. The patient and his grandmother received a warm welcome from all caregivers. The sleep manager stated that this little boy was so happy and excited to be there due to the compassion the entire hospital team provided. She said she had never seen a patient so excited to have a sleep study.

We recognize all caregivers involved, and this nomination is for Erin Remund, RN. Erin Remund was the ED decontamination RN. She gathered some toys and activities for the child to complete since he couldn’t bring toys with him. She also helped him and his caregiver shower. The actions of our St George caregivers created a great experience for this patient. He lives in a motorhome with his mother and grandmother. As they are transient, they move around, and their listed address is a local storage unit. The manager stated she was wondering if this little boy may not have had any gifts for Christmas as when he was provided a little 'gift' bag from the ED and the toys provided by other caregivers, he had the biggest smile and was so excited! The team really made this little boy and his grandmother feel welcome and at ease. The care and compassion the team provided highlight why we all got into healthcare - to help patients, no matter what their social status or living conditions. Thank you for making a hospital visit an exceptional experience for this 11-year-old patient.
