5 days post-op partial knee replacement, I went to Park City Intermountain ER after passing blood clots in my urine. Scans revealed a serious enlargement and suspected dissection of my Aorta. I was immediately Life-Flighted to Intermountain Medical Center, Thoracic ICU. Erin McCray, RN, cared for me from 7 am-7 pm.

From the outset of her shift, it was clear to me that I was in the hands of a talented, experienced, naturally kind, and unusually caring professional nurse. Specifically, she was sincere with many questions and listened to my answers patiently. She was unusually thoughtful about fulfilling my unique personal needs related to my very recent knee surgery, beyond the care associated with my aorta. She made sure my knee was protected and attended to, making sure I would receive prompt PT and occupational therapy from team specialists. She tended to my pain meds alongside my heart-health meds to keep me on track with post-surgery recovery. She enquired whether I needed freshening and then washed my hair, bathed me, changed my bedding and gown, adjusted my bed, organized IV lines, brought blankets, etc. She was prompt and caring about my meds. She facilitated toilet visits and offered and delivered a needed stool softener. She constantly made countless adjustments to increase my comfort level.

In the interims, she was observed hustling to empty trash, recycle linens, etc., all while carrying on pleasant, easy, verbal exchanges. I felt a tangible elevation of care the moment RN McCray appeared. This feeling was sustained throughout her presence during her 12-hour shift. Her spirit, connection with me, and pleasant, easy coordination with her colleagues fortified my sense of dignity. I felt important, safe, comfortable, clean, and valuable under her care. I believe she goes above and beyond in her work and is a very special asset to Intermountain.
