The impact Erin had on our son's life, and on ours, is immeasurable.
Our family would like to recognize Erin Bevers, RN, at Children’s Minneapolis, with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
There was not a single day that Erin did not go above and beyond in caring for our son and our entire family. She consistently exemplified what it means to be an extraordinary nurse, serving as a compassionate role model, a tireless advocate, and a clear, thoughtful communicator. Erin’s empathy was genuine and unwavering, and her care was always delivered with sincerity and heart.
When our son was 5, he was diagnosed with Stage IV high-risk neuroblastoma. After bravely fighting that battle, he was fortunate to enjoy many cancer-free years. In the summer of 2023, at the age of 16, he was once again faced with cancer when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
It was during this time that Erin Bevers entered our lives and made a profound impact. Her exceptional care, deep compassion, and extensive knowledge carried us through one of the most difficult chapters our family has ever known.
Our son did not easily let people in, but Erin “being who she is” won him over. He trusted her and looked to her for both knowledge and comfort. In the final week of his life, when his symptoms became concerning, he would say, "You need to get a hold of Erin.”
She was his, and our, go-to person, and he knew he would hear back from her quickly. Erin was a source of comfort to our son and to our family, remaining present and supportive up until the very end of his life, and even beyond.
Erin was also my biggest cheerleader. During moments when I doubted my ability to administer his care at home or felt that I wasn’t doing enough, her words lifted me up and gave me the grit and courage to do what needed to be done.
Because of Erin’s encouragement and support, our son was able to spend more days at home rather than in the hospital, and for that, our family is profoundly grateful.
Erin Bevers embodies everything the DAISY Award represents. Her clinical expertise, unwavering compassion, and deep commitment to both her patients and their families set her apart as an extraordinary nurse.
Erin cared not only for his medical needs, but for his dignity, comfort, and sense of safety. She supported our family with empathy, honesty, and strength when we needed it most.
The impact Erin had on our son's life, and on ours, is immeasurable. We will forever carry her kindness with us, and we cannot think of anyone more deserving of this honor.
