Her attention to detail and strong clinical judgment allowed her to gather essential information that shaped the trajectory of the patient’s care.
It is with great admiration that I nominate Erika Jovel for the DAISY Award, in recognition of her remarkable clinical intuition, compassionate care, and unwavering commitment to patient advocacy.
While Erika was caring for a patient whose symptoms gave her a high suspicion of a possible stroke. Trusting her instincts and putting her patient’s well-being first, she acted swiftly and decisively. She immediately advocated for her patient by requesting a STAT CT and took it upon herself to contact the patient’s family to obtain a thorough medical history and determine the patient’s baseline neurological status.
Her attention to detail and strong clinical judgment allowed her to gather essential information that shaped the trajectory of the patient’s care. She collaborated closely with the attending physician to communicate her concerns and present a comprehensive, well-organized report based on her observations and the data she obtained from the family.
The physician was notably impressed, stating she was "very impressed when the RN was able to provide such a detailed report on the patient, her advocacy, and her quick actions to get the patient to CT." Thanks to Erika’s compassionate and proactive care, the patient received the prompt attention they urgently needed.
This nomination is a testament to Erika’s exceptional dedication, critical thinking, and collaborative spirit. She is an outstanding example of the kind of nurse who ensures every patient receives the best possible care—advocating even when no one is watching, listening deeply, and responding with heart and precision.
Thank you, Erika, for being a true patient advocate and for delivering care that goes above and beyond.
