Erik Johnson, BA, BSN, MAN, RN

Erik deserves the DAISY Nurse Leader Award for his leadership, guidance, support, and positivity. Over the past 4 months, Erik has taken on additional responsibilities, including expanding his direct reports, expanding the number of floors he oversees, and even some extra project work. Even while managing a broader scope, he continues to lead with a positive attitude and remains present for his team. His steady focus on priorities such as team goals, metrics, care without delay, and patient safety has helped move the work forward in a meaningful way.

Leadership: Erik leads through change by helping the team stay focused, aligned, and moving in the right direction. He continues to assist with many projects. He sat on the HUC Negotiation Team. He has set clear priorities, communicated expectations, and helped others stay grounded during periods of change. He also has built strong relationships by being approachable, welcoming, and intentional about creating connections across the team.

Guidance: Erik makes time to check in consistently with team members and leaders, ensuring they have what they need to succeed. He creates space for questions, offers perspective, and provides steady direction when challenges arise. His guidance often comes through thoughtful conversation, practical advice, and timely reminders that help others stay focused and accountable.

Support: Erik is a dependable source of support during difficult conversations, day-to-day problem solving, and moments when team members need extra help navigating challenges. He is responsive, reliable, and quick to step in when support is needed, which builds trust and confidence across the team. He makes time and is present for all of the leaders.

Positivity: Even as his responsibilities increased, Erik maintained a calm, positive, and solution-focused attitude. Even on the busiest days, he brings positivity that helps ease others while still setting clear expectations. That balance makes a lasting impact on the people around him.
