My partner recently spent almost 3 weeks in the Cardiovascular ICU after having heart surgery. His recovery was very problematic and he was quickly put on ECMO life support. Ultimately, his body shut down, and he passed away in the CVICU. Every nurse, nurse practitioner, and doctor that was part of his care was exceptional. However, Erica stood above the rest. Her competence and skills as a nurse were without question, but it was her compassion, empathy, and care that went above and beyond. It is not easy watching the love of your life pass away before your eyes, and Erica understood that. She was there for me in a way I can't fully explain, and I can never adequately express the gratitude I have for her. I am forever thankful she was his nurse when he passed away. She brought me comfort in the most difficult moments of my life, and I will never forget her.
