There was something about her presence that made the situation feel less stressful.
When my baby was at 38 weeks of gestation, there were some concerns, so I was scheduled for an evening C-section. Erica was my night nurse. She quickly built a trusting relationship with both my fiancé and me. There was something about her presence that made the situation feel less stressful. She walked with me to the OR, reassuring me every step of the way. The moment I stepped into the OR, a wave of fear hit me. Sensing my anxiety, Erica gently wrapped her arm around my shoulders, offering silent but powerful support. The epidural did not work, so I had to receive general anesthesia. Tears streamed down my face as I realized all the things I would miss. Through my tears, I felt Erica grab my hand. She reassured me. When I woke up in the OR, the first faces I saw were my fiancé holding our beautiful baby boy and Erica, right by my side. She had taken photos during the C-section and even recorded our son’s first cry. Erica’s presence and compassionate nursing made all the difference. Her skill and experience were evident, but more importantly, she truly cared. She turned what could have been a traumatic experience into something we could cherish.
