She has not only been a nurse providing medical care but also a steady source of emotional support and advocacy for this family in need.
I am writing to nominate Nurse Erica Fernandez for the DAISY Award in recognition of her extraordinary care, compassion, and advocacy. Throughout my daughter's treatments, I have witnessed Erica's unwavering dedication to a mother and her son who face the significant challenge of not speaking English. Erica is consistently the first choice when the staff needs assistance translating medical information. She goes above and beyond to ensure the family fully understands their treatment and any necessary instructions.

Erica plays a key role in helping the mother navigate appointment scheduling and medical logistics. I have witnessed her reach out to the social worker to arrange transportation and other needs for this family, demonstrating her commitment to their well-being far beyond what is expected. Her commitment to this family is a clear reflection of her compassion and dedication. She has not only been a nurse providing medical care but also a steady source of emotional support and advocacy for this family in need. Her kindness and consistency make a significant difference in their experience, and it has not gone unnoticed. Her efforts are not limited to her role as a nurse.

Erica's compassion shines through in every interaction, whether she is the nurse caring for the family that day or not. Her passion for her profession is unwavering, and it is clear that she genuinely cares for the patients she serves, as she has done for my own daughter. I have seen her support this family every single time they come in, and it is a relief to know that Erica's advocacy ensures this mother and son are never left behind, even with the language barrier. I have seen her take time and effort to advocate for them on multiple occasions, helping bridge the gap in communication. Ericas ability to connect with the family on a personal level and make them feel comfortable, safe, understood, heard and cared for is truly remarkable.

I believe Erica's efforts deserve recognition, even if the family cannot express their gratitude themselves. The mother cannot read or write, and I worry that she will never have the chance to formally acknowledge Erica's dedication. As someone who has witnessed Erica's commitment to this family and all the other families of the 3rd-floor infusion center, I believe it is essential that she be recognized for her ongoing support and advocacy efforts. For her extraordinary compassion, advocacy, and the positive impact she has on the lives of those she cares for, I wholeheartedly nominate Nurse Erica Fernandez for the DAISY Award. She is truly deserving of this honor.
