She is a true model of compassion, empathy, and selfless care which are qualities that cannot be taught, only lived.

My mother was admitted with severe abdominal pain and complications after being unable to use the restroom regularly for four to five days. She had recently been discharged from rehabilitation care, and returning to the hospital was emotionally devastating for her. Her condition required repeated enemas and the difficult, deeply personal care that accompanied this type of treatment, an experience that was physically uncomfortable and profoundly embarrassing for my mother.

From the moment Emmi stepped in, she took full control of my mother’s care with grace and confidence. Throughout the day, she cleaned and cared for my mother four to five times, never once showing discomfort or impatience. Instead, Emmi treated her with unwavering dignity, gentleness, and respect. She instinctively protected my mother’s privacy, reassured her during moments of embarrassment, and handled every situation with kindness and professionalism that brought comfort not only to my mother but to our entire family.

I will never forget how attentively Emmi assisted my mother when she was finally able to get up, carefully helping her to the restroom and preventing what could have been a humiliating accident. She went above and beyond by completely changing the bedding, remaking the bed, and redressing my mother. These were tasks she performed thoroughly and compassionately, as if my mother were her own family.

Despite the unit being understaffed that day, you would never have known it by watching Emmi work. She managed her responsibilities seamlessly, always present and always attentive. I thanked her repeatedly, but words did not feel sufficient. Watching Emmi care for my mother moved me to tears.

Though Emmi is young, she exemplifies everything a nurse should be. She is a true model of compassion, empathy, and selfless care which are qualities that cannot be taught, only lived. I will forever be grateful for the way she cared for my mother in a way I could not.
