BSN, RN
I was admitted to TJUH Gibbons building 9NE after surgery and reconstruction. This was the biggest procedure I’d ever had in my life, and I had a lot of anxiety about the outcome.
The morning after surgery, I was introduced to Emma, who was with E. From the start, Emma’s attentiveness and willingness to learn stood out. She actively participated in my care, always showing genuine compassion and interest in making sure I was comfortable.
One of the challenges I faced was difficulty breathing through the breathing tube. Emma was attentive to my concerns and worked closely with E to explore ways to make me more comfortable. They adjusted my care with thoughtfulness, ensuring every detail was addressed with care and precision.
Emma consistently demonstrated a natural ability to connect with patients and make them feel seen and valued. One day, she helped clean my face to remove excess blood and iodine, ensuring I felt refreshed and cared for. Emma also assisted with keeping my sheets clean and supported me in small but meaningful ways, such as encouraging me to participate in my care and ensuring I felt empowered despite my vulnerable state.
Her gentle approach made a lasting impression on me. Emma’s presence and dedication to my well-being were evident throughout my stay. I felt reassured knowing that someone so committed to her patients’ comfort and dignity was part of my care team.
Emma’s contributions, paired with her compassion and willingness to go above and beyond, make her an exceptional nurse. I strongly believe she deserves the DAISY Award for her dedication and the lasting impact she had on me during one of the most challenging times in my life.
