Emma exuded a calming presence and shared in our commitments throughout the process.
Our birth story is a little unconventional. My husband and I are adopting, and we met up with our birth mom at the hospital once she knew she was in labor. It was just the three of us for most of those 27 hours, as we just sat together in the delivery room, all of us new to the labor experience. Emma was our nurse for the last 12 hours of the labor. She knew our story was unique and took extra care to recognize and support our needs. None of us ever felt like we were second fiddle to her. She recognized that we're one blended family all looking for the same thing, a healthy baby and a healthy mom. Emma exuded a calming presence and shared in our commitments throughout the process. When the time to push had come, Emma's shift was ending, but she stayed to offer moral support to mom and me, her support person. She held our hands, helped us capture the moment, wiped away tears and even stayed to see we were all happy and safe after the birth was over. 2 days later on Emma's next shift, she stopped in to see both of us with baby and birth mom's room to give hugs and express her congratulations for the path before us, as well as recognizing and comfort the emotional needs that birth mom needed in her recovery. Emma is a true advocate for her patients and birth mom, and I can't imagine a better nurse to have guided us through the process of delivery. Thank you, Emma, for meeting our unique needs with extraordinary compassion and care.
