I came to Cooley Dickinson Hospital after being advised by my OBGYN due to bleeding complications. Just one day prior, I had received the life-changing news that I was pregnant with my first child. Understandably, I arrived feeling overwhelmed, scared, and emotionally fragile. From the moment I entered the hospital, I was met by my nurse, Emma. Her presence was calm, compassionate, and reassuring. Emma immediately made me feel cared for and safe during what was the most difficult and vulnerable moment of my life. Throughout the internal procedure, Emma held my hand, offered comforting words, and provided tissues as I cried. Her empathy and support never wavered. She allowed me to fully feel the grief of my miscarriage without judgment or haste—giving me the space to process the emotional weight of my loss.

Emma exemplifies everything a patient hopes for in a nurse: skilled, attentive, emotionally intelligent, and truly patient-centered. She went above and beyond to ensure my physical pain was managed, and more importantly, that my emotional pain was acknowledged. She never stopped asking how I was feeling or if there was anything else she could do to help me through it. Although this experience was devastating, I found strength in Emma’s unwavering support. For that reason, I am honored to nominate her for the DAISY Award. Emma is the embodiment of compassionate care, and I will forever be grateful for the kindness and grace she showed me during the hardest moment of my life
