My father-in-law, age 82, was hospitalized for over a week due to a urinary infection. He has been hospitalized several times due to his suprapubic catheter and tube changes after having prostate cancer. Emma stood out to us immediately upon meeting her. She let us know that our visit was noticeably helping him to recover. She updated us daily on his improvements and explained the treatments that were being implemented. Emma listened to our concerns, was extremely empathetic and compassionate, and truly cared about keeping all of us well-informed. She was extremely professional and never too busy for us when we had a question. Her willingness to help to improve my father-in-law’s visit was evident. We only found out later that Emma was fairly new to nursing. Her calmness, knowledge, and skill made us believe she was a well-seasoned long-term caretaker. Emma left an impression on all of us, and we wanted to make sure that she was recognized for her true devotion to her nursing profession.
