Emily empowered us as parents, and her strength of character, amazing skillset, down-to-earth warmth, quick thinking expertise, humor and compassion were apparent at every step.
We are so lucky to say that Emily was a regular feature of the excellent care our beautiful baby son, R, received in the PICU when he was seriously unwell.
Emily consistently went above and beyond, acting as our son's voice collaboratively with other professionals, always alongside us as parents, with R and his needs at the very center of every single decision.

R had to undergo risky emergency surgery, and we had to say goodbye to him just in case. When R pulled through this, Emily was waiting for R when he returned with the bunting she had made decorating his cot. This act of kindness will stay with us always.

Emily empowered us as parents, and her strength of character, amazing skillset, down-to-earth warmth, quick-thinking expertise, humor, and compassion were apparent at every step.
Emily worked tirelessly to try to save R's life, balancing all the intricacies of his care to stabilize him following his diagnosis of HLH, an autoimmune condition that was triggered by coronavirus and enterovirus.

Despite his tragically not surviving beyond six weeks, we will never forget the exceptional care R received from the PICU team, and especially from Emily, who will remain in our hearts and R's spirit forever. She was the exact person we needed in the darkest of times.

Emily is incredibly special, and we would love for her to be recognized as the difference she made to our family is nothing less than life-changing. Thank you. Emily was present with us both when our son, R, was very poorly at the beginning (staff said he was the most critically unwell child in the entire PICU) when he arrived, when he made miraculous progress leading to a potential pathway home and also when he was fighting for his life at the end; she was a constant person in R's journey and for us as a family. When R's organs were failing at the end, it was Emily who guided us through huge decisions such as Dialysis, as every attempt was made to save him.

Emily even had to change her uniform mid-shift at times due to running around while wearing full PPE as R had coronavirus upon admission; her physical and emotional commitment to him and us was incredible. We met so many incredible staff during our five weeks by R's side in the hospital, but it was Emily who stood out time and time again.
