Emily Rosuck, RN
Emily Rosuck provided care to our family during the full-term stillbirth of a much-loved baby girl, and I can honestly say that her compassion, grace, and professionalism exceeded every expectation we could have had during the darkest moment of our lives.
From the moment she entered the room, Emily created an environment of dignity, respect, and peace. She gently guided the grieving parents through every step of the process while providing space, privacy, and unwavering support. She cared not only for the mother and father, but also for the extended family members who came to meet and honor this precious baby. Her calm presence helped us navigate an unimaginable loss.
Emily also demonstrated remarkable tenderness as she helped create lasting memories for the family. While mentoring a newer nurse, she thoughtfully explained each step of obtaining footprints and handprints, photographing the baby, and preserving keepsakes that will be treasured forever. She assisted the father with the baby's first bath, gently combed the baby's hair, and ensured that a cooling bassinet was brought to the bedside so the parents could spend as much time with their child as they needed. Every action reflected deep respect for the life of this baby and the profound grief of the family.
What stood out most was that Emily's care did not end when her shift responsibilities did. After the patient/mother was transferred to the Women's Care Unit, Emily came to check on her and delivered a personal handwritten note. This simple but extraordinary gesture reminded the family that their baby mattered and that they were not alone in their grief. Emily embodies the very best of nursing. She combined expert clinical care with genuine human compassion, while simultaneously serving as a teacher and role model for another nurse. She transformed an experience marked by heartbreak into one filled with dignity, love, and meaningful memories that the family will carry forever.
