Emily did not hesitate to respond. She jumped in, performed compressions, and remained with the patient until the patient was able to transfer to the ICU.
Emily is also an extern nurse at Wellstar Douglas. She was doing her clinical rotations on 2north when there was a cardiac arrest on the unit. Emily did not hesitate to respond. She jumped in, performed compressions, and remained with the patient until the patient was able to transfer to the ICU. Emily displays a positive attitude when she is here either for work or for her clinical rotation. Her passion for nursing is demonstrated through her connections with patients, families, and co-workers. I’m excited to see what her future has in store for her.

ICU down grade stable upon arrival to unit, post transfer to unit/completion of admission data base, pt c/o lower abd pain, addressed with medication. Few minutes later the pt c/o Nausea, gave IV medication to treat. At time of administration of IV antiemetic, pt states need to use BR. CP came to bedside and prepped the BSC, pt declined stated to get bedpan. RN had left room and informed the pt would be back to reassess, CP stepped out to allow pt privacy to have BM. RN up in hallway, CP re-entered the room, called RN back to bedside as pt condition changed. When I arrived to bedside, pt unresponsive/thready pulse. I didn't even have to ask her for help, she stepped right up, gave order to call code 11111, call STAT both unsuccessfull. Called code via responder in room, pt lost pulse, no breath sounds. I had wound care nurse come to bedside to assist. Emily broke bed down to aid with providing CPR, then rotated out with wound care RN twice. Once pt stable were able to transfer to ICU. Emily was a resource I needed that day, and I can't thank her enough. Within in the hour post transfer needed to return her monitor box, went to retrieve in ICU, only to be pulled into coding our pt again. She was able to help ICU staff out with rotation of CPR. Her drive, knowledge, and skill set kicked in she aided not only this pt but her team to no end. This nursing student deserves to be recognized for her ability to take the initiative to aid team and provide the urgent care needed to stabilize the pt. Very clear headed and focused. The code huddle, we acknowledged the great work she and her fellow nursing student performed. I am proud of her as my co-worker/nursing student. She was present in my patient's time of need.
