February 2026 Honoree
Emily Brucksch, RN
I’d like to nominate Emily for a DAISY Award. I was in 5B post-double mastectomy. Emily was my wonderful nurse on day 5. I had very little sleep overnight and was upset being in hospital, with my diagnosis, not sleeping, multiple failed cannulation and venepuncture attempts, and just generally overwhelmed. Emily took time to listen to my upset and concerns and was very comforting. As the day progressed, I pointed out a strange sensation at my mastectomy site. Although Obs remained normal, I felt this wasn’t “right”. Again, Emily listened to my concerns, took vital signs, and escalated to doctors as this health change continued to decline. I had an internal bleed that became apparent when a drain was removed in preparation for discharge home. Emily managed this calmly and escalated and communicated so well that I stayed calm too. The end result being, I was rushed to theatre for a washout and drainage of a very large clot. I credit Emily for her wonderful, calm demeanor and her ability to treat, care, communicate, and remain calm in such a professional way. Thank you, Emily! You are truly wonderful, and I wouldn’t have made it without you!
Thank you, Emily, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
