We came to the Brookings hospital after realizing we would not make it to our designated hospital in time to deliver our baby. Emily, our nurse in the triage room, immediately recognized the urgency of my labor and took control of the situation. She stayed calm and kept me as up to date in real time as possible, being sure not to overpromise anything. As the team tried to check me in and get my IVs hooked up, Emily assessed the situation and realized the baby was coming. She quickly alerted the other nurses to stop what they were doing and to help her deliver my baby. We were so impressed with her care during this experience- we are still talking about it days later. Emily is the highlight of my birth story; she turned a scary situation into an empowering moment for me as a mom and a woman, and I’m deeply grateful that she was our nurse. Thank you, Emily!
