Emily and C had a new patient come in for evaluation of newly diagnosed pancreatic cancer. The patient is disabled and was having great difficulty understanding the visit, the plan going forward, and was trying to handle financial issues while at the clinic. Emily and C took their time and were so patient with this patient. They assisted him with completing his financial assistance paperwork for send-out testing, carefully explaining each step and helping the patient where he had difficulty understanding. Emily and C also overheard the patient speaking with clerical staff at the checkout counter about how he was going to pay for his medications. The patient's family member had sent the patient money via Cash App, and the patient was having difficulty figuring out how to transfer the money to his bank account so he could pay for his medications. Emily and C patiently took the time to explain, step by step, how to transfer funds to the patient's personal bank account so he could get his medications same day. Their dedication to taking time and attention to the patient's special and specific needs, and showing kindness to the patient, caught the attention of those within earshot.
