Emerie at the Breast Care Center saved my life! I have enjoyed having her as a part of my care team this year, but one day she went above and beyond. I am a stage 3 breast cancer patient on an aggressive chemotherapy treatment, and I started to feel a lump with severe pain in my neck. Concerned that it was a problem with my port, I thought I should have it looked at. I was already in the Cancer Center for labs, so I casually showed up at the Breast Care Center desk to ask if I could speak to a triage nurse. I call them often, but since I was already there, I thought it would be better if someone would take a look. Without an appointment, Emerie made time for me and came to see me in the waiting room. She ordered an ultrasound to be safe and helped me get to the scheduler so I could have the test immediately. Upon receiving the ultrasound, it turned out I had a full occlusion blood clot in my jugular vein that was extending down into my chest, which is life-threatening. As I was getting the ultrasound done, she made herself available to speak with the radiology staff, made sure to get my doctors on the phone, and made a treatment plan. I ended up getting admitted and received the care I needed to save my life. I am so grateful for her time and compassion. On top of this, she has always been receptive to my messages, has written me doctor notes I needed the same day, and has researched medical devices I need and where to find them. She has been such a light throughout this difficult time in my life.
