Elly kept calm while being a patient advocate to ensure that the patient received the care necessary for her survival.
Patient was a direct admit from ER for shortness of breath, the Virtual RN was doing her admission information. Patient was fine at the beginning, speaking as usual, during the admission, the patient suddenly stated she was feeling short of breath, sitting in the bed in a tripod position with pursed lip breathing. The VRN then attempted to call the bedside nurse who was in a covid room and unable to get to the patient. She then called the charge nurse, charge nurse went into the patient’s room, obtained vitals, and found the patient to have stats of 69% the VRN stated on the screen, calmly talking to the patient. Charge Nurse then asked the VRN to call a Rapid Response which she did. Once the Physician arrived, the VRN was able to answer questions about the patient or labs. The VRN was also able to chart the results for the staff at the rapid response. The patient had ABGs drawn, indicating that her Stats were 61%. Patient was transferred to CCU on restore BIPAP, the VRN stayed on the monitor until the patient was transferred. The VRN kept calm while being a patient advocate to ensure that the patient received the care necessary for her survival. Great job to the VRN!
