I would like to nominate the nurse who cared for me in the PACU on the night shift for the extraordinary compassion and dignity she showed me during one of the most vulnerable moments of my life. Waking up from anesthesia was overwhelming, and I was crying uncontrollably. Instead of making me feel embarrassed or like a burden, she treated me with kindness, patience, and reassurance. She spoke to me gently, comforted me, and never once made me feel ashamed for being emotional. At one point, I needed to use a bedpan. She helped me without hesitation, cleaned me afterward with professionalism and compassion, and preserved my dignity throughout. Moments like that can be incredibly humiliating for a patient, but because of her kindness, I never felt judged or embarrassed. She was also incredibly attentive to my pain, checking on me frequently, listening to my concerns, and making sure my pain was managed as well as possible. I always felt safe knowing she was there. As a nurse, technical skills are essential, but patients remember compassion long after they leave the hospital. She exemplified the very best of nursing. Her empathy, attentiveness, and genuine care transformed what could have been a frightening and vulnerable experience into one where I felt respected, comforted, and truly cared for. She is exactly the kind of nurse every patient hopes to have, and she deserves a DAISY Award.

Thank you, Elizabeth, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
