July 2021 Honoree
Elizabeth Schermele, BSN, RN, OCN
After 5 stressful chemo treatments, that reduced me to tears during the first 2 visits, on the way there and at times on the way home. Elizabeth was the nurse for my last treatment. She was calm, reassuring, and validated my concerns. It made all the difference because I felt heard and validated. When I told her I didn’t like my medical information being reviewed around other people in the infusion room, she said, “No problem I get it, you can always go to a separate room, and you always have that option.” Elizabeth’s kindness made an extraordinary difference in my life during that one day she cared for me. Kindness always makes hard things bearable.
Thank you, Elizabeth, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
