While my mom was sedated on the Bi-pap machine, I saw Elizabeth go above and beyond to make her comfortable, and I could tell that she genuinely cared.
My mom was admitted to the hospital with stroke symptoms, and it was determined that she had a mild stroke. After a few days of being in the hospital, she became disoriented and confused. She had COPD, and her blood CO2 levels were extremely high, and she was transferred to the critical care unit. A few days later, Elizabeth called me that evening to give me an update on my mom's condition as the nurse taking care of her that day. I hadn't received a call from a nurse in the past to give me an update and was instead requested to call back. When I spoke to Elizabeth on the phone, she was very pleasant and explained the situation to my mom.
The next day, when I couldn't make it to the hospital, Elizabeth called and gave me another update so that I was kept in the loop. When I came up to the hospital, Elizabeth showed compassion for my mom's care that I hadn't seen before. While my mom was sedated on the Bi-pap machine, I saw Elizabeth go above and beyond to make her comfortable, and I could tell that she genuinely cared. My mom even mentioned that she was a very nice nurse. On other days when I visited, Elizabeth asked me how I was doing, and she wasn't the nurse taking care of my mom at the time. That was really thoughtful of Elizabeth to think of me and ask me about me. I told her that I wanted to nominate her because she was the best nurse ever to take care of my mom. I meant that considering how much my mom has been in the hospital over her lifetime.
My mom passed away a few weeks later at SWG, and Elizabeth did stop in my mom's room at the time to give me a hug. I ordered Cheryl's Cookies to be delivered to the critical care unit as a way to say thank you to all the staff, but a very special Thank you to Elizabeth! Elizabeth is truly deserving of this award as she exemplifies compassion, patience, and resilience. I am truly thankful for the care she received at SWG.
