Elizabeth stood out because she not only provided excellent medical care but also showed genuine compassion, dignity, and humanity at a time when it mattered most.
My adult son came to the ER with a severe ulcerative colitis flare. He was extremely nauseous and vomiting, and although we arrived at 9:00 a.m., and the ER lobby was empty, no beds were available, so we had to wait.
The waiting room began to fill over the next few hours, and he was bumped twice for patients who were more critical. He was not able to get a bed until 12:30 p.m. It was a long and miserable wait for him, and as his mother, it was heartbreaking to watch my son suffer.
Even before he had a room, every staff member we encountered showed true kindness and compassion. The ladies at the check-in desk were so attentive. One of them noticed how often I was getting up to get tissues for him and brought us our own box without us even asking, and both ladies continued to check in on him and encourage him while we waited.
When Elizabeth Adams came to get him, she and another nurse explained that there still was not a room available, but they had a hallway bed, so they could start his care right away instead of making him wait longer. That small act meant so much to him. He was so grateful just to be able to lie down.
Elizabeth immediately started his IV and administered nausea medication, speaking to him gently and reassuringly the entire time. The other nurse then took over his care and continued that same level of warmth, competence, and attentiveness. They worked together seamlessly as a team, communicating clearly and treating him like a person, not just a patient.
Once his nausea was under control and he was hydrated, he finally began to feel relief, something we desperately needed after hours of pain.
We are, unfortunately, “frequent flyers” in the ER due to his UC, and this was his third visit this month. Each visit has come during vulnerable and emotional moments for our family. Each and every nurse we have encountered at the Athens Limestone Hospital ER has been exceptional and very deserving of this award. I am sad to say that I do not have the names of all of the nurses he has encountered.
Elizabeth stood out because she not only provided excellent medical care but also showed genuine compassion, dignity, and humanity at a time when it mattered most. She treated him with kindness, patience, and respect, and they cared for me as a worried mother, too.
Her professionalism, empathy, and willingness to go above and beyond truly exemplify what nursing is all about. We are deeply grateful.

Elizabeth provided exceptional care to me while I was in the ER before my surgery. When I arrived at the ER, I was in a lot of pain and feeling extremely anxious about what was happening and what might come next. It was a stressful and overwhelming experience, but Elizabeth immediately made me feel seen, heard, and cared for. Her kindness and calm demeanor stood out right away.
What meant the most to me was how she took the time to explain everything clearly. Even in a busy ER environment, she never made me feel rushed or like I was just another patient. She walked me through what was happening, answered all my questions with patience, and made sure I understood each step leading to my surgery. That level of communication helped ease so much of my fear.
One moment that truly stood out was when Elizabeth shared her own personal experience of having the same surgery. Hearing her talk about what she went through and how everything turned out helped calm me in a way nothing else could. It made everything else feel less scary and more manageable, and it showed a level of empathy and connection that I will never forget.
Elizabeth also paid close attention to how I was feeling emotionally. She recognized my anxiety and went out of her way to comfort and reassure me. Whether it was her gentle tone, her encouraging words, or simply the time she took to check on me. She made a lasting impact during one of the most vulnerable moments I have experienced.
Because of Elizabeth, I was able to go into surgery feeling more confident. Her compassion, professionalism, and willingness to connect on a personal level truly embody what the DAISY Award represents. I am incredibly grateful for the care she provided, and I believe she is more than deserving of this recognition.
