He stayed kneeling there beside her for 10 minutes, listening to her and asking her questions about Dad and their life together.
Our mom was admitted to OhioHealth Berger Hospital and was cared for by an amazing ICU nurse, Eli. We were SO impressed with Eli’s treatment of Mom during her entire stay, and we definitely feel he needs to be recognized for his exceptional nursing skills and outstanding bedside manner! He showed such compassion and caring in everything he did and said! We want to give a couple of examples of how he was an exceptional, attentive caregiver:
We, and Mom, had talked a little earlier with Eli about Mom and Dad, how they had been married over 60 years, and what a great marriage and life they had had together until Dad passed away in 2019. Eli was so easy to talk to, and his soft-spoken, sweet nature reminded us of our Dad, and Mom told him that. One afternoon, Mom was restless and seemed agitated, and Eli recognized this right away. He immediately knelt by her bed and asked her to tell him about her husband, which I'm sure he knew was one of Mom's favorite subjects. He stayed kneeling there beside her for 10 minutes, listening to her and asking her questions about Dad and their life together. It was so sweet, we were all close to tears over the sincere, caring way he just listened and talked to Mom, fully focused on her every word. Of course, she calmed down, thanks to Eli!
Another day, when Mom had gotten worse and did not want the CPAP on, she was pulling at it and was very restless. When Eli checked on her, he immediately sensed her agitation and said, “H, I'll be right back!” He came back a few minutes later with a little teddy bear he had made from a washcloth, and he had drawn a face on it. It was such a sweet, thoughtful thing to do and meant a lot to us and to Mom. We even put the teddy bear in the casket with Mom; that's how much it meant to all of us. We could go on and on about Eli and his compassionate, gracious care of our mom; these are only two examples of many we could give. His patience with Mom and all of us, asking him questions constantly, is just one of the many reasons we feel Eli is an outstanding nurse and deserves to be recognized for his care for our mom. And we have no doubt he's consistently this wonderful with all his patients.

Second Nomination for nominee: Eli provided exceptional care for my grandmother while she was being discharged from the ICU. He was very thorough in explaining discharge medications and instructions, being patient with my grandfather as he asked questions. He provided my grandmother with comfort and understanding as he removed adhesives that were painful to her before reapplying necessary coverings. Eli treated my grandmother with dignity as she needed help using the restroom. Overall, Eli provided fantastic care for my grandmother, and your hospital system is blessed to have him!
