A labor and delivery nurse whose compassion has touched countless lives, Maddy exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond for her patients and their families, transforming moments of heartache into experiences of comfort and care.
The nomination, written by the mother of a patient, captures the impact Maddy had during a particularly challenging situation. The patient, a young woman experiencing a miscarriage at 15 weeks, was facing an unimaginable heartbreak along with complex medical obstacles. It was Maddy who became her support, warmth, and reassurance throughout the process.
Th family recounts how Maddy’s ability to connect instantly with the patient brought a sense of trust and security during a time of deep emotional and physical pain. “She didn’t just explain every step of the process, she made sure she [patient] truly understood, taking the time to sit at the end of her bed and provide thoughtful, patient answers to questions.”
A heartfelt surprise ceremony took place in the Labor & Delivery Unit in July to honor Maddy for her dedication. Surrounded by her colleagues, the unit was overjoyed to witness one of their own celebrated for making such a meaningful impact. Kit Bredimus, chief nursing officer and vice president for Midland Health, presented Maddy with her nomination, a leather-bound certificate, a Healer’s Touch sculpture, and gifts from Midland Health and the DAISY Foundation.
The DAISY Award is a special honor given to extraordinary nurses, recognizing the depth of their compassion and the ways they go above and beyond expectations for their patients, families, and team. To be named a Daisy Honoree signifies a lasting imprint on all whose lives they touch.
