What truly sets Dylan apart is his gift of humor and warmth.
Dylan's compassion, grace, and humanity that he brings to his patients, especially for patients who are feeling vulnerable or dying, is extraordinary. His humble ability to treat every individual with deep respect is evident in how he listens and honors each person’s story, and ensures patients feel involved in their own care. He brings a quiet strength and grace to even the most difficult moments, preserving dignity and offering comfort without hesitation. What truly sets Dylan apart is his gift of humor and warmth. He has the natural ability to bring light into heavy situations, using laughter to build connection and ease emotional burdens. I’ve witnessed him make an elderly patient smile and laugh, helping him feel valued and seen—not like a burden, but like a person who still matters deeply. His presence transforms the atmosphere, reminding everyone that joy and humanity persist even in the hardest times. Dylan embodies the heart of nursing. His care is not just clinical, it’s deeply personal, emotionally intelligent, and profoundly kind. He makes patients feel safe, cherished, and never alone. I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition.

A patient's family member came up to me to recognize Dylan's kindness. She was tearful as her father, who had end-stage metastatic disease and sepsis, was dying, and they were making plans to go home on hospice. Her father had a rough couple of days in the ICU after extubation. He was delirious, frustrated, and weak. But when Dylan became his nurse, something shifted. Though the clinical situation remained unchanged, the atmosphere transformed. Dylan brought light into a dark moment—he made her father laugh, even amidst uncomfortable conversations, assistance with daily tasks, and the overwhelming fear of the unknown. Dylan’s humanity, sincerity, and compassion were exactly what her father and their family needed on that profoundly difficult day. His presence made a lasting impact, and it did not go unnoticed.
