I arrived on shift and received report on a complex CAPS patient who delivered a few hours prior with Duyen. Although she had her hands full, she joined me as I went into the patient’s room to introduce myself and begin my care. After helping clean and settle the patient, I watched Duyen thoughtfully show her the memory-making she completed one by one. The patient was appreciative and visibly tearful. Duyen comforted her with a heartfelt hug as the patient was grieving the loss of her baby. Duyen proceeded to comfort the patient’s spouse and pay her respects to their baby before leaving for the day. This touching moment brought tears to my eyes as Duyen’s coworker and made me proud to work on a unit with empathetic nurses like her.
