My mother was recently admitted with atrial fibrillation (AFib), and as someone who has a history of a kidney transplant and breast cancer, we are no strangers to hospital stays across central Arkansas. One of the ongoing challenges we face is that my mother is Deaf, and the hospital’s Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) systems often fail to connect, leaving me to step in as an interpreter. While I would prefer to be there solely as her daughter, I understand the necessity of bridging that communication gap, though I often wish for a more reliable system that would allow me to focus on my role as her family member rather than an interpreter.

In the midst of these challenges, Wanda truly stood out as an exceptional caregiver. She went above and beyond to make both my mother and our family feel comfortable and welcomed. Wanda demonstrated remarkable diligence in monitoring my mother’s condition and showed genuine concern for her well-being. Even after her shift was over, Wanda stayed later than usual to ensure a smooth transition to the night shift, further showcasing her commitment to providing the best possible care.

What truly set Wanda apart, however, was her attitude. Her consistent positivity, warmth, and genuine compassion were felt throughout our experience. She treated my mother with the utmost respect and dignity, never making her feel like a burden despite the communication challenges we faced. Wanda’s approach not only ensured excellent care but also made us feel valued as individuals.

I am deeply grateful for her professionalism and the outstanding care she provided. Any patient under Wanda’s care will undoubtedly receive the same level of compassion and attention.
