Doris Rocco is an extraordinary nurse who goes above and beyond for her patients and her coworkers. She comes to work every day with a smile on her face and gives exceptional care to her patients while demonstrating compassion, integrity, and accountability. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and often and eagerly takes students and new grad nurses under her wing. She is a great role model and someone I look up to as a coworker. If I or someone I loved needed a nurse, I would be so lucky to end up with a nurse like her.
***
Doris brings a smile to everyone's face when she walks into the unit and is the first to lend a helping hand when it comes to solving problems. When I started here as a new nurse, Doris always provided positive feedback and encouraged me in little ways I didn't know I needed. An example is telling me when I gave a good report or did a great job with a patient situation. This gave me the confidence I needed to be successful in this role. Doris continues to do this as a preceptor for all the new graduate nurses we welcome. Throughout her time here, she has also obtained her Stroke Certification and is one of a handful of nurses to do so. This makes her a knowledgeable asset to everyone on the unit and gives her a greater understanding of our patients' struggles. The demographic on this unit is tough because patients tend to decline quickly. Doris handles these situations appropriately and with grace. She sets an excellent example for nurses to take accountability and problem-solve. That is why our patients and their families trust her to care for them.
