Dora Delia Rodriguez Ramirez

English Translation:
I have seen her in various situations. Day in and day out, she faces such delicate cases. She might be caring for the most critically ill patient in the unit, yet she treats them with unconditional love—with great respect, empathy, and warmth. Her approach is gentle yet firm.
She is constantly attentive to the baby—whether they are intubated or have chest tubes, femoral lines, or umbilical catheters. She is always warm with the parents; I have seen her comforting them, offering words of encouragement, and telling them to take it one step at a time and—God willing—the baby will recover.
Day after day, even during difficult shifts, she always speaks to the babies with love. She holds them and speaks affectionately to them, as if they were her own. She explains their care to the parents, helping them feed the babies and encouraging them not to be afraid, but to be brave for their little ones.
I have seen her bathe a baby who had just passed away, speaking to them with indescribable love and wishing them all the love in the world. She is an exceptional nurse who remains composed in every situation and works with LOVE and humanity.
I remember one instance with a patient. He was a baby born at 29 weeks' gestation who was intubated and on sedation and vasopressors. His parents came in worried every day; I remember Doris talking to them, explaining that while fear is inevitable, they needed to fill their hearts with love now more than ever—taking it one day at a time and recognizing that every bit of progress was a good thing.
The baby was here for over two months, and she cared for him right up to his final days, always remaining attentive and watchful. She explained the medical equipment they would be taking home to the parents and said goodbye to him with great love.
Another patient surprised us all with her premature birth; we had nothing prepared, and due to an emergency, she had to be delivered at 34 weeks' gestation. She was only two hours old when her health began to decline, taking a drastic turn for the worse. Amidst various medical procedures, we faced the challenge that she weighed only 1.5 kg and had issues related to prematurity, such as an infection that hindered her ability to gain strength.
Doris was always there, looking after that little part of me while she fought to get better, Doris and the entire NICU team remained attentive, responding to her intense crying.
What made us truly appreciate the whole team—and Doris in particular—was the humane, sensitive, and maternal way she treated my daughter. It was the way she spoke to, held, and cared for her that revealed her love for the profession and her genuine altruism toward the babies in the NICU.
Beyond all that, during a dark time in my journey as a mother, I felt guided and supported by Doris; she helped me stop being so hard on myself, encouraged me to get to know my baby, and calmed the fears and terrors that mothers feel in moments like those. I am infinitely grateful for Doris's support.
When my little one was discharged, I missed that support—the care they provided, which is undoubtedly a reflection of the wonderful human being and professional Doris is.
