Watching her advocate so confidently reinforced for me the importance of speaking up and trusting your clinical judgment. It was a powerful lesson in patient advocacy and courage.
During my final preceptorship on a medical-surgical unit this spring, I had the privilege of learning and working with Donna. From the start, Donna embodied what it truly means to be a textbook example of the exceptional nurse you would want to provide care to your family member or yourself. She welcomed me into the team with kindness, patience, and a genuine desire to teach.
I always felt comfortable asking questions, knowing I would be met with thoughtful, judgment-free answers and tips. Her teaching style was both supportive and empowering, and her years of experience were evident in every interaction she had with patients, families, or staff.
One moment that stands out is when Donna advocated fiercely for a patient whose condition had changed subtly but significantly. Although the situation wasn't immediately clear to others, Donna trusted her instincts and spoke up to the MD, firmly and professionally, to ensure the patient received the timely care they needed to minimize further complications. Watching her advocate so confidently reinforced for me the importance of speaking up and trusting your clinical judgment. It was a powerful lesson in patient advocacy and courage.
Donna consistently went above and beyond, not just for her own patients but for anyone who needed a hand on the floor. Her positive attitude, teamwork, and dedication to excellent care created an environment that made me truly excited to show up each day. She reignited my passion for nursing and showed me exactly the kind of nurse I hope to become. Donna is more than deserving of DAISY Award recognition for the difference she makes both in the lives of her patients and in shaping future nurses like me.
