She is direct in her expectations of staff and provides guidance to all, whether it is for a new procedure, new equipment, or just to talk through anything a nurse needs clarified.
Donna has been the women's services clinical educator for many years now. She has navigated the many changes in the clinical education service line and adapted her workflow to consistently meet our service line's needs. Donna has wonderful relationships with the 5 managers in her service line. They work together to support many new hires and new grads in their first-year journey in healthcare. Labor and Delivery is a highly specialized department that requires many educational updates, skills checkoffs, and drills. Donna does an amazing job keeping all of these requirements up to date and in compliance. We rely on her so much, and she always comes and helps with any issue we need to tackle. She also has a creative way of communicating both educational and informational content, which is very eye-catching and engaging for the learner. Donna is a huge support to our new grads and meets with them at least every two weeks, along with the manager, to ensure they are on track with orientation. She is so consistent and reliable. We are so lucky to have her as a part of our Women's Team.

Donna’s commitment to the Women’s Service line is unmatched. She is constantly researching to make sure our education and processes are up to date. She is always available to the women’s leaders and employees. She is passionate about improving health outcomes for our patients. She does a great job meeting with new staff members during orientation to ensure they have what they need and can often help curtail their educational experience. Donna is a well-rounded educator, and we are grateful to have her on our team.

I worked with Donna when I first started in labor and delivery at Wesley in 2011. I was in awe of her. She was a team leader on the night shift when I was a baby nurse. She was a confident nurse whom everyone on the unit loved. She taught me countless fundamental skills on the night shift that played a significant role in shaping the nurse I am today. Donna's departure to join the OB/GYN office was a tremendous loss for our unit. She was a highly skilled nurse whom everyone relied on, looked up to, and genuinely valued as a friend. Several years later, Donna returned, and I had the opportunity to work with her again - this time in her educator role while I served as a manager. Donna's passion for women's health is displayed in every encounter she has with leadership and with nursing staff. Donna keeps very close connections with the new staff in every unit. She provides written resources for them and encourages everyone to reach out to her with anything, whether by text, Webex, or in person. Donna is very approachable and easy to talk to. Her decision-making skills are always on point. She is direct in her expectations of staff and provides guidance to all, whether it is for a new procedure, new equipment, or just to talk through anything a nurse needs clarified. Donna rounds on our staff, dayshift and nightshift, it doesn't matter the time of day, you know Donna will be present for anyone and anything. I have learned so much from Donna while in my manager role. She has taught me how to talk to employees and how to support them in ways that help them grow in skill and confidence. More than once, Donna has helped me through difficult situations with nurses who were not a good fit for LDR. The patience she showed these employees and the non-judgmental manner in which she spoke to them brought me back to our nights together when she was the mentor I looked up to. Here, several years later, she still has those attributes that gave me the aspiration to keep being the best that I can be. At times, I feel like Donna is an extension of Kellie and me. When we meet and devise a plan for various things, Donna takes the idea and puts it into play. She consistently takes initiative to help our team reach its highest potential while ensuring our patients receive professional, efficient, and exceptional care. Donna does all of these things daily, never wavering. Donna is so deserving of this DAISY award for Extraordinary Clinical Nurse Educator.

Donna Hatfield is long overdue for a DAISY Award for her contributions within our women's service line. I have worked with Donna for 15 years. Her dedication and commitment to our team and our patients at Wesley are unmatched. Since Donna has been in her role as our educator, many qualities have made her deserving of this award. One of the things I admire most about Donna is her intentionality to build relationships with our women's services bedside staff. Our team knows, without question, that when they need something, they can call Donna. Whether it is a tenured nurse or a nurse on orientation, they know and have a relationship with Donna. This isn't easy to do in such a large service line!

As a manager, I rely on Donna to ensure our team feels comfortable with our frequent and ongoing changes. She always offers to come in early or late on the night shift and round. She not only rounds on our unit with all staff, but partners with us as managers, and rounds every 2 weeks intentionally with our staff on orientation to ensure we are meeting their educational needs.

Donna goes above and beyond on a daily basis in how she serves us as a leadership team and, most importantly, our team and our patients. Donna truly models every attribute of what it means to model our ICARE standards. I am so grateful for Donna's contribution not just to me as a friend and colleague, but also as an educator to our teams.
